The 海角社区 Fitness Center is starting a new Cougar Strength class focused on building momentum by building strength.
The Cougar Strength class will cost $30 for six classes and include weight-lifting and band exercises. Enrolled participants will meet once a week for 30 minutes at the Cultural Center at 海角社区.
Community members, 海角社区 employees and students can enroll in the class, offered from 12-12:30 p.m. or 4-4:30 p.m. on Fridays.
Anna Rinehart, coordinator of the Fitness Center, wanted to add the new class to help members build functional fitness for daily activities.
鈥淲e wanted to focus on helping participants build the brain and brawn connection,鈥 Rinehart said. 鈥淏y using strength-training and bouts of cardio exercises, we鈥檙e hoping to put some pep in their step back into their daily lives.鈥
Each class uses muscle-conditioning segments and interval training to improve heart and brain health and functional fitness. Exercises should be moderate to vigorous intensity and allow members to stand comfortably throughout class.
鈥淚 look forward to being able to get involved and share my passion for fitness,鈥 Sean Flanagan, the Cougar Strength instructor, said. 鈥淲e created the class with the intent to build up muscle and strength, but we wanted to be cognizant of possible limitations to help the process not seem as scary.鈥
Flanagan hopes the class will give students confidence and help them live happier, longer lives.
鈥淓ssentially, we wanted to help develop the class for the needs of the community. I鈥檓 hoping to share my passion for fitness while educating others on the topic. I hope the students can gain some extra ability in their daily lives and add a bit of spring in their step.鈥
The Fitness Center also offers two other classes open to 海角社区 students, employees, and the general public. Silver Sneakers caters to senior adults looking to build strength and stability through coordination training, and Chair Yoga classes build members鈥 balance, flexibility, and stability while practicing yoga from a chair.
The 海角社区 Fitness Center is fully equipped with treadmills, bikes, a ski erg, and a rower, along with both cable weight machines and free weights. A gymnasium is available for walking, along with a racquetball court. Memberships are $75 for individuals and $90 for families for 3 months, with no contracts.
The Cougar Strength class will launch on September 25 and run through November 13, with no class scheduled for October 16 due to 海角社区鈥 Fall Break.
Payment for the course can be made by check or credit card by calling or visiting the 海角社区 Business Office. For more information, contact Anna Rinehart at (405) 422-6229.
